Restorative care

Ceramic Fillings

Tooth-coloured inlays and onlays for teeth affected by decay or damage.

After decay or damaged tooth tissue is treated, the tooth may need a restoration. Ceramic inlays and onlays are options for selected teeth, with the design chosen according to the area that needs restoring.

Choosing a restoration

An inlay restores an area within the tooth; an onlay extends over one or more of its biting cusps. Your dentist considers the remaining tooth structure, bite and position before recommending ceramic, composite or another suitable material.

Reviewing existing fillings

Old fillings are assessed for their condition, any decay and your individual needs. A sound amalgam filling does not automatically need replacement simply because it contains mercury. Discuss any specific medical concern with your dentist.

Digital restoration planning

Ceramic restorations can be made using digital design and manufacturing methods such as CEREC. Your consultation will establish the appropriate material, method and number of visits.

Your dentist will explain suitable options, alternatives and the proposed next steps before treatment.
